Tips to Protect Yourself from Common Gift Card Scams

Cybercrime and fraud scams are a real and growing issue. Without knowing the facts, anyone, at any age, can become a victim.
Macy’s Gift Cards can only be used at Macy’s, Macy’s backstage, Market by Macy’s and macys.com.
  • No legitimate government entity, including the IRS, Treasury Department, FBI or local police department, will accept any form of gift cards as payment
  • Other businesses do not accept payments in the form of Macy’s Gift Cards. Macy’s Gift Cards cannot be used to pay for utility bills, hospital bills, computer repairs, bail or taxes
Treat your gift card the same as a credit or debit card.
Never share gift card account numbers or 4 digit security code from the back of the card with someone you don’t know.
If you get a call from to a stranger who says that a loved one is in trouble and they ask you to provide gift card numbers to help them, hang up and contact your loved one directly.
  • Do not purchase, sell, or check your balance on Reseller or unauthorized websites
  • Don’t always trust your caller ID. Scammers can manipulate a caller ID to look like a legitimate company or government agency
